If you’ve followed my social media or blog posts for the past few years, you probably know that I go dig fossils in Wyoming each summer with my dad. We usually go camping and make it an adventure. This year we drove to Grand Junction to see my Grandma, Uncle and Aunt for a few days. We met up with some friends who drove all the way out from Kentucky to dig for fossils with us. We checked out Dinosaur National Monument Quarry Exhibit which was super interesting and also saw some Indian petroglyphs on the cliff sides. We camped in Flaming Gorge, Utah along the Green River and even went river rafting. I couldn’t believe how clear the water was and how many fish were swimming around.
Fossil dig day, we got up early and packed up our campsite and drove two hours to American Fossil in Kemerrer, Wyoming. It was much colder than we expected with a temperature around 50 most of the day and it got pretty windy at times. We had a great time as always, found a lot of fossils and Cooper and the team at American fossil were very helpful. After a day of fossil digging with our friends, we ate a huge pizza at Rosie’s Pizza and crashed out for the night. We made our way back to Grand Junction, Colorado for a day and then headed SouthWest to Zion National Park with another friend of ours. We went on a hike, saw some dinosaur tracks in St. George, Utah and had some decent ramen for dinner. The next morning, we got up early and headed home. I had a great time and the week went by so quick. I’m already planning our next adventure. Keep an eye on my social media pages over the next month as we work on some of the fossils we found. My dad uses a air scribe to reveal the partially exposed fossils.
